Five Dragons Football Players Honored on All-Conference Teams

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Five Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons football players were honored Monday as they were announced to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Conference team. Two were selected on the second team and three were honorable mention.
Seniors Jon Swart and Joe Johnson were both named NSIC second team All-Conference on defense and offense, respectively. Juniors Jake Larsen and Nick Scharpf along with sophomore Jeff Schuette were named to the honorable mention All-Conference team.
Swart, a four-year letterwinner at MSUM, ended the 2009 season with 27.5 tackles, 13 of which were solo. He had eight tackles for loss with two sacks this season, totaling a loss of 39 yards.
Johnson, the Dragons leading receiver, caught 55 passes during his final year for 537 yards. He also returned 41 kick-offs for 744 yards including two games over 100 yards this season. He averaged 127.5 all-purpose yards per game and 9.8 yards per catch.
Larsen and Schuette were main stays on the Dragons defense in 2009 and combined for 114.5 tackles this year. Larsen contributed 2.5 tackles for loss while Schuette had 5.5.
Scharpf was the Dragons second leading receiver with 37 catches on the season. He averaged 11.3 yards per catch totaling 417 in 11 games.
