Dragons Volleyball Adds Three to 2010 Roster

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. - Head Coach Tammy Blake-Kath and the Dragons volleyball program announced Monday the addition of three to the freshman class of 2010.

The signees include middle-blocker Kayla Handevidt (Esko, Minn.), right side hitter Samantha Kallberg (Hermantown, Minn.) and outside hitter Angie Waller (Fargo, N.D.).

Handevidt is a senior at Esko High School where she earned three letters in volleyball. In 2009 she led her team to the Minnesota State Tournament and was named a member of the All-State team. She is a two-time All-Polar League team member as well as played in the league's all-star game in both 2008 and 2009.

"We are extremely excited to sign Kayla," Blake-Kath said. "She is a quick and agile middle who we believe can make some significant contribution to our program. We are looking forward to working with her in the coming years."

Kallberg, a three-time letterwinner at Hermantown High School, was named to the All-Lake Superior Conference first team in 2009. She led HHS to the school's eighth consecutive conference title this past fall. After her senior year she was also named to the Kernz &Company High School All-Star Volleyball team.

"We are excited to have a player like Samantha in the program," Blake-Kath said. "She will provide a some depth on the right side and is a strong blocker that will bring a heavy hand when swinging at the ball."

Waller a member of the 2010 class at Fargo North High School, where she played varsity volleyball for the past three years under Head Coach Missy Wilson. She was served as FNHS's team captain and was named the team's MVP in both her junior and senior seasons. An All-Eastern Dakota Conference team member in 2008 and 2009, she was also named to the All-State team in each of those seasons.

"The first thing everyone is going to notice about Angie is her incredible vertical," Blake-Kath said. "Not only can she sky but she can hang up there for awhile. She is a local player who is dynamic to watch and we are excited that she chose MSUM."

The three additions will help the Dragons replace the loss of two senior's (Mary Sussenguth and Keri Dowzak) from the 2009 team, that ended the year with a 21-12 record.
