One New School Record and Three Provisional Qualifiers at Track & Fields Opening Meet

MANKATO, Minn. - The men's and women's track and field teams at Minnesota State University Moorhead opened the 2009-10 season as they competed at Minnesota State Mankato's Early Season Open on Saturday where the team showed many top finishes, including one school record and three provisional qualifiers for the NCAA DII Indoor National Championships.
In the running events, the Dragons had two top finishes, LaquoneRobinson's 60-meter hurdles run and Aaron Lund's top finish int he 400-meter dash. Robinson finished the race in a time of 8.13 setting a new MSUM school record which had stood for over 30 years. His race time provisionally qualified him for the 2010 NCAA DII Indoor National Championships. Corey Shufelt finished in third, behind Lund, in a time of 50.43.
Anthony Enyi led the men in the field events as he finished first in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put. In the weight throw, Enyi threw 19.18 meters that was just two centimeters short of automatically qualifying for the NCAA DII National Indoor Championships, he provisionally qualified with the mark. The shot put left his hand and went 15.14 meters before hitting the ground.
Also in field events, Derek Bredy jumped to a second place finish in the long jump with a final distance of 7.10 meters. Bredy's distance provisionally qualified him for the Indoor Championships. Skyler Jackson and Antonio Hardy-Dundy also finished in the top-10 in the long jump with an eighth and ninth place finish, respectively.
Robinson tallied a second place finish in the triple jump behind an unattached jumper and ahead fo 14 other athletes. His final distance of 14.17 meters earned the silver finish.
Another second place finish was tallied by MSUM as Ryan Barnes went over the high jump bar a 1.95 meters. He finished behind South Dakota's (NCAA DI) Jared Vlastuin who finished at the same height but made the attempt earlier in his turn of jumps. Michael Bendix finished third in the event for the Dragons with a jump of 1.90 meters.
Brock Keaton took second place in the 60 yard dash with a time of 6.92. He led teammates Skyler Jackson and Uchenna Ogbonnaya who took fifth and sixth, respectively.
On the women's side, Kayla Kapsner led the Dragons in field events as she finished second overall in the high jump. She went over the at at 1.62 meters, .08 meters ahead of teammate Ashley Hagen who took sixth place.
In the races, Kendra Mooberry had the best finish for the Dragons with a third place finish int eh 400-meter dash. She had a time of 58.32 in the finals.
