Scotty
You have been on the inside of the Dragon family for longer than anyone else … ever.
It is very difficult to comprehend what you have seen and what you have accomplished as the only Sports Information Director in the history of our great university.
I want to share my attempts to wrap my mind around your astounding career and accomplishments.
First off, the College Sports Information Directors of America chose you as the 101st inductee into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 1991. Only two Sports Information Directors were chosen that year, and you were inducted with Paul Brewer, the Sports Information Director of the University of North Carolina (yes Michael Jordan's North Carolina for those of you who were wondering). That Hall of Fame list reads like a Who's Who list of colleges…Michigan, North Carolina, Stanford, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Texas, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama, Duke, Penn State, and of course…Larry Scott Moorhead State. UNBELIEVABLE!
Dragon lore has it that you missed your last Dragon Football game in 1967. For anyone that is keeping track, that was the year of the very first Super Bowl. Since then you worked an amazing 427 consecutive Dragon football games. You are one of only four SID's at any level to have hit the 400 game mark. WOW!
In your career you have collected 107 national awards for publications including 25 “Best in the Nation” certificates.
In case you didn't get it, that last sentence is so astounding, it needed to stand alone.
Scotty, when it is all said and done I won't remember you for the accolades or the statistics. I won't remember you for the time we spent together in the snow working at a soccer game or waiting for the printer after a game. Those NCAA DI Men's Final Fours you worked will be nothing but a distant memory for me.
What will be forever burned in my mind, is the love and respect I hear in the voices of every single Dragon Alum I meet when they talk about you and the positive impact you had in their lives.
For the last 40 years you have chronicled the wins, heartbreaks and accomplishments of thousands of student-athletes and coaches. At the same time, the influence you have had in the lives and careers of hundreds of interns and student-workers in your office is amazing.
Larry Scott you have touched lives, inspired students and truly represented what it means to be a Dragon.
I realize it is impossible to capture all you have done and meant to Dragon Athletics so I will close with this…well done Scotty!
