OMAHA, Neb. - The Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons volleyball team put together a 66 kill, five-set match win over Missouri University of Science and Technology to give the team a 2-0 record at the University of Nebraska-Omaha Classic. The team took the five set match by taking matches one, three and five (25-22, 12-25, 25-23, 15-25, 15-9).
The Dragons had a season set-high side-out percentage of 92 percent in the second set that was aided by the 20 kill fourth set that pushed the match to the fifth.
Three kills by Laura Tvrdik in the first six points of the final set, put the momentum in the Dragons hands as they took the final set 15-9. Tvrdik ended the match with 13 kills and two block assist.
MSUM hit .256 to MST's .112, as the Dragons hit 20 more kills than their opponent that had 46.
Kristen Kleven, who came into the match in the third set, ended the day with 15 kills and five blocks. She played for the first time in two weeks as she was sitting out due to injury.
Heidi Lensing again was among the stat leaders, as she had 13 kills in the match. Leigh Splittoesser had 51 assists in the match while being second on the team in digs with 13. Freshman Allie Knutsen had 24 digs leading the team.
The Dragons will play both Southern Indiana and Drury (Mo.) at 9:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., respectively, on Saturday.
