OMAHA, Neb. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons nine-game winning streak ended on Saturday as the team suffered a four-set loss to Drury (Ind.). This came after they picked up the team's 10th win of the season against Southern Indiana earlier on Saturday, 3-0.
The 10-3 Dragons won the first match of the day 25-18, 25-11 and 25-18. The team had 41 kills in the match hitting .353. In the second set MSUM hit .467 completing 16 of their 30 attempts.
Mary Sussenguth led the team with 12 kilsl and four block assists. Heidi Lensing trailed Sussenguth by two kills, with 10, also producing two assists and four digs. Leigh Splittstoesser ahd 30 assists in the match.
Defensively, the Dragons had two double-digit diggers with Nicle Buysse and Allie Knutsen digging up 16 and 14 attacks, respectively.
Against Drury, MSU Moorhead could not put together enough streaks to pull of the victory, losing 3-1 (25-14, 16-25, 21-25, 29-31).
In the fourth set, Head Coach Tammy Blake ran out of substitutions and was forced to play some of her defensive players in the front row, but the team held on until Drury was able to capitalize on Dragon errors and take the match.
Lensing led the Red and White with 15 kills and three block assists. Laura Tvrdik had 14 kills in the match and had one solo and one assisted block. Splitstoesser had a tournament high, 49 assists along with 15 digs and three assisted blocks. Knutsen led the defensive efforts with 21 digs.
The Dragons will host Minnesota, Crookston in the 2009 home opener on Tues., at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
