ABERDEEN, S.D. - Sophomore defender Cody Krieg scored a late goal on a free kick to lead the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons soccer team (2-1) to their second win of the 2009 season, topping the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers, 3-2.
Krieg's goal came at the 80-minute mark after a minor foul was called on the Lopers. The goal was a free kick from 35 yards out and carried over UNK's goalkeeper's head in the right corner of the net. The game-winner was the first goal of Krieg's career at MSUM.
UNK struck first as they tallied a goal off a rebound shot by Alicia Crawford at 18:45. The tally was an unassisted goal that had bounced off of Dragons' goalkeeper Alison Wanner, who made two saves in 90 minutes played.
Freshman Ashley Swanson charted her first of two assists for the Dragons at 27:59 when she kicked a ball up the middle that was knocked in by Jena Reed. The second assist came five minutes before intermission as she hit another through ball past the defense to Shanae Morical who kicked it in the goal just five yards away from the posts.
The Lopers tied the game at two at 57:33 when Maggie McClure had an unassisted goal.
The Dragons will host Bismark State in their 2009 home opener on Sat., Sept. 12 at noon. The game will be held at the Alex Nemzek Soccer Field.
