Track Teams Fair Well At Cobber Alumni Open

MOORHEAD, MN – With an all around team effort, the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons track and field teams had a good showing at the Concordia College (Moorhead) Cobber Alumni Meet on January 23.

The Dragons posted six-first place finishes in just the women's track and field events. The women's team also brought in three-second place finishes and four-third place finishes.

In the 55-meter and 200-meter run's Jill Steinwand and Nicole Hall both finished in the top five in each event. Steinwand posted times of 7.71 and 27.00 and Hall finished with times of 7.85 and 27.40, respectively. In the 55-meter hurdles and 200 meter hurdles Ashley Berg tacked on a first place finish in each as she posted times of 9.08 and 30.84, respectively.

Kristina Anderson posted a first place in the 400-meter run and finished with a time of 60.57. In the mile and 3000-meter run's the Dragons posted third place finishes. The athletes were, Danielle Thompson 5:46.87 (mile) and Kaeley Troyer 13:09.34 (3000 meter).

In the pole vault the Dragons went one-two with Kaylyn Ronke and Katie MacRae, respectively. Ronke posted a vault of 3.2 meters (10'6'') while MacRae's vault was listed at 2.9 meters (9'6.25'').

On the men's side, they posted six-first place finishes, four-second place finishes and three-third place finishes.

Bobby Pyne and Derek Meyer each took home a second place finish in the 55 meter run and 200 meter run, respectively. In the 55-meter hurdles, three Dragons placed in the top five while the 200-meter hurdles title belonged to Eric Asfeld, as he took home the top spot with a time of 26.66.

The Dragon 4x200 meter relay team competed and set an all time meet record with a time of 95.41. On the record setting team was Derek Meyer, Eric Asfeld, Matt Weeks and Daniel Hirsch.

Many Dragons saw their names posted within the top five of every list in the field events at the meet. Jose Alba posted two-first place finishes throwing for distances of 14.52 meters (47' 7.75'') in the weight throw and 14.10 meters (46'3.25'') in the shot put.
