Nash-Gerlach Joins 1,000 Point Club as Dragons Top Wolves

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Senior Alison Nash-Gerlach scored the 1,000 point of her career on Friday night as she led the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons women's basketball team to a 73-67 win over the Northern State Wolves.

Nash-Gerlach tallied 22 points to move her career-total to 1,010. She is the 17th Dragons women's basketball player that has eclipsed the 1,000 point mark, with eight regular season games left this year. She also had 4 rebounds.

The Dragons led by as much as nine int he first half, 26-17 at the 5:40 mark, but the Wolves would not let down on their home court as they chipped away at the MSUM lead to tie the game with 50 seconds before intermission. Marisa Yernatich stole the momentum as they team went into the break as she hit a three-pointer to give the Dragons the halftime lead, 33-30.

MSUM took the lead for good with 4:17 left in the game on consecutive free-throws by Nash-Gerlach. She scored 18 of her game leading 22 in the second half, going 7-for-14 from the floor. She also went 8-for-9 from the free-throw line. The Dragons were 11-for-12 from the line in the final four minutes of play.

The keys to the win were solid shooting from the free-throw line and rebounding. The Dragons went 20-for-24 from the charity stripe and grabbed eight more rebounds (36-28) to take the win.

The Dragons were led by Nash-Gerlach, who was one of three players to score in double figures. Senior Meghan Rettke had 16 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore Brittany Mayclin had 13 points, going 4-for-5 from behind the three-point arc, three of which came in the first half. Krista Opheim moved 5 steps closer to becoming MSUM's all-time assist leader, now 12 shy of the mark.

MSUM moves to 14-5 overall and are 8-4 in league play. NSU to 5-7 in the NSIC and 9-10 overall.
