MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons swimming and diving team was ery impressive on Friday night at the Dragon-Cobber Invitational where they took the title in seven of the nine competed events.
The Dragons started off the event with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay finishing in a time of 1:50.89, shaving 0.11 of a second off their top time this season.
Lisa Black led the squad with
Ann Gusewelle swimming second followed by
Cassie Jensen and anchored by
Victoria Honetschlager.
Black continued to rule the pool as she placed first int eh 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.76. MSUM's
Justine Turk, Clair Caron and Honetschlager followed Black in second through fourth, respectively.
Gusewelle took the top spot in the 200-yard breaststroke, with a time of 2:26.59.
Jessica Doar finished in front of teammate
Tara Cherry to take first and second in the 1650-yard freestyle in times of 18:38.31 and 20:05.65.
In the final relay of day one, the Dragons took both first and second place, finishing the 200-yard freestyle in times of 1:44.71 and 1:46.88.
Senior
Kayla Koenig placed first in both the diving events. She scored 235.25 points in the one-meter and 256.60 points in the three-meter.
The second day of the Dragon-Cobber Invitational will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30. The second session will follow at 5 p.m.
