MOORHEAD, Minn. – Seniors
Tim Johnson and
Jarret Hall were honored on Senior Night at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse as the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons wrestling team wrapped up their regular season with a home dual against No. 6 Augustana Vikings. The Seniors picked up the two Dragon wins on the night as the Dragons fell to the Vikings, 9-28.
After the Vikings won the first six matches,
Jarret Hall took the hard mat and got momentum on the Dragons side early on against Carl Serck at 174 pounds. Hall gained a takedown with 56 seconds remaining in the first period and maintained control. Hall furthered his lead with an early escape just seven seconds into the second period. Neither wrestler would gain control for the rest of the period.
Serck would close in to start the third period as he gained a takedown with 53 seconds left. The last 39 seconds saw a flurry of action as Hall escaped but was taken down just 12 seconds later. Again, just seven seconds after that, Hall escaped and crafted a takedown of his own with eight seconds remaining, posting a 7-4 decision.
Johnson would also shine in a big way for the Dragons. Johnson wasted little time in dispatching his opponent Lance Peters at 285 pounds. Johnson gained a takedown just 44 seconds into the first period and would craft a pin of Peters at the 52-second mark. The two seniors posted impressive matches but it would not be enough as the Vikings held on for the win.
The loss drops the Dragons to 5-10 on the season (2-5 NSIC). The win brings the Viking's record to 11-5 on the season (6-1 NSIC). The Dragons will head to the NSIC Super 3 Regionals at Aberdeen, S.D., on February 28.
