MOORHEAD, Minn. - There is no question that the Dragons will be looking for a new starting quarterback for the 2010 season, but who will fill that spot is up to the players.
Headlining the 2010 Dragons recruiting class is junior Kevin Koch who will vie for the starting role at the helm of MSUM's offense. Koch is a 6’3”, 205 pound, lefty from Elmhurst, Ill.
Koch comes to the Dragons after a two-year stint at Dupage College, a junior college in Dupage, Ill. While at DC, Koch received the Most Improved Freshman award in 2008 and was the 2009 Co-Offensive Player of the Year.
“Kevin brings a lot of experience in the spread offense and will fit into the schemes we are trying to do,” MSUM Offensive Coordinator Damian Droessler said. “He has a very high football IQ, that will allow him to catch on quickly and compete for the starting job.”
In 2009, Koch completed 147 of 258 passing attempts for 1,707 yards, throwing eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also carried the ball 73 times for 152 yard and rushed for one touchdown. Koch has proven to not only be a great athlete but also excels academically as he maintained a 3.40 GPA at DC.
As a prep athlete, he was a four-time letterwinner in both football and basketball while attending Immaculate Conception High School. As a senior at ICHS, Koch was deemed the football team's Coaches Award recipient and honored with the Leadership Award.
