MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team awards were announced on Thursday afternoon as sophomore
Jake Driscoll and freshman
Alex Novak shared the Most Valuable Player title for the 2009-10 season.
Driscoll averaged 15.8 points per game to lead the team, also averaging the most playing time with 28.5 minutes per game. In the league, Driscoll was 10th in scoring (15.8), eighth in assists (3.67) and second in free-throw percentage (113-126, .897).
Novak was honored with three team awards as the co-MVP, he was also the Freshman of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year. Novak led the team in blocks and rebounds (7.3 rpg) this season, as he set the single-season record in blocks at MSUM with 69. He also averaged 7.6 points per game, scoring 206 points and grabbing 197 rebounds in his rookie campaign. Novak ranked first in the league in blocks and fifth in rebounding.
Also honored on the team was
Eric Olson,
Brent Egan and
Chris Conley.
Olson was the recipient of the Coaches Award. As a freshman, Olson averaged 7.4 minutes per game and grabbed 67 rebounds this year.
Egan, one of the first players off the bench, was named the Most Improved Player as he averaged 13.8 minutes per game with an average of 4.0 points per game.
Conley was named the Practice Player of the Year. The junior, averaged 5.4 minutes per game this year and grabbed 18 rebounds.
