OMAHA, Neb. – Junior Derek Bomstad advanced to the semifinals where he faced Craig Becker (Wiscosin-Parkside) in the 149-pound weight class. Bomstad forced an overtime sudden victory situation but fell short of a national title with a shot at a third place finish.

Bomstad and Becker wrestled at a 7-7 tie late in the third period when Bomstad executed a firemans carry that landed Becker on his back. Becker quickly reversed Bomstad and forced an overtime situation. In the overtime period, it was Becker’s late takedown that sealed the match and sent Becker on to the finals.

Bomstad moved on to the third place bracket, facing Thomas Hepburn (Nebraska-Kearney). Bomstad gave Hepburn all he could handle but fell one point short of moving on to the third place finals, dropping a 2-3 decision.

Bomstad moves on to the fifth place matchup against his NSIC foe Travis Elg of Minnesota State Mankato. The fourth session is expected to start at 8 p.m. in Sapp Fieldhouse on the campus of Nebraska-Omaha.
