KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons dropped both games of their twin bill on Wednesday against the Caldwell Cougars, 9-1 and Adelphi Panthers, 11-2.
In game one, the Dragons could not come back from an eight run inning posted by the Cougars in the bottom of the second inning. MSUM's lone run came in the top of the third as Ariel Adelson doubled off the left field fence. She would score in a hit up the middle by
Amanda Moore.
Against Adelphi, the Panthers scored four runs in the first inning, all coming with two outs, capitalizing on two Dragons' mishaps. All three outs in the top of the first came by strikeout, all credited to
Mara Litzer who suffered the loss. She ended the game with 8 strikeouts.
The Dragons tried to mount a comeback in the fifth inning as
Betsy Dickson led off with a infield blast that tipped off the pitchers glove. Dickson would score the Dragons first run on a pitch that got away from the Panthers catcher. Dickson and pinch runner Samantha Adolph moved into scoring position on a balk. Adolph scored on a Texas-leaguer into right field by Adelson. Adelson went 2-for-4 in the game to lead MSUM.
Adelphi tallied on three more runs in the top of the seventh inning to increase their lead and held onto the win, 11-2.
The Dragons move to 1-9 overall. They will play Bridgeport and New Haven (Ct.) at 9 and 11 a.m. on the 18th, respectively.
