Dragons Set Qualifying Marks In First Week of Outdoor Competitions

PORTLAND, Ore. and IRVINE, Calif. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons distance runners and sprinters set qualifying marks while participating in the Oregon Preview and the UC-Irvine Spring Break Classic, respectively, in the last week to open the 2010 outdoor season.

At the Oregon Preview, Anna VanWechel took seventh overall in the 1500 meter run. She raced to a time of 4:31.06 which is a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA DII Outdoor National Championships.

In California, Brock Keaton and Laquone Robinson led the Dragon sprinters. Keaton placed second overall in the 100-meter sprint and third overall in the 200-meter sprint. His time in the 100-meter was 10.84 and was 22.01 in the slightly longer race.

Robinson provisionally qualified for the NCAA DII Outdoor National Championships and hit a qualifying mark for the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 110-meter hurdles. He finished second in the event behind UC Irvine's Jacob Yowell by eight one-hundredths of a second, in 14.58 seconds.

The men's 4x100 relay team of Robinson, Uchenna Ogbonnaya, Percy Watson and Keaton took second in the race as they broke the MSUM school record in a time of 41.36.

The Dragons will continue competition in split squads at the Texas Relays and the Northern State Invitational on April 2.
