MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons women’s soccer team received two key additions to the squad with the signings of forward Amanda Wurdeman and goalkeeper Victoria Hoffman.
Victoria Hoffman will come to MSU-Moorhead by way of Eastview High School in Apple Valley. Hoffman is a dual-sport letterwinner as she excelled in both soccer and track. Hoffman was a three-time All-Minnesota academic selection as a discus and shot put thrower.
Hoffman’s Lake Conference championship in the discus netted her All-Lake Conference honors. Already a four-time most valuable thrower, Hoffman was named captain for her senior season.
In 2008, Hoffman was a member of the conference champion soccer team, which finished second in the Minnesota State Championship. Hoffman’s athletic accomplishments pair well with her academic successes.
Hoffman has been an academic letterwinner from 2008-09 and was a National Honor Society inductee in 2008. After being an honor society member in 2009 was named a historian officer this year.
Hoffman is also a member of S.A.D.D. (Students Against Drunk Driving) and was responsible for organizing events to educate peers. While volunteering for both clubs, Hoffman stays active in vocals, band and Spanish Honor Society on top of her athletic commitments.
Dragons Head Coach Rollie Bulock is not only excited to bring on a highly achieving student, but a solid goalkeeper as well.
“Another excellent student, Victoria will add another element of competition among our goalkeepers for starting and playing roles,” Bulock said. “She is a technically sound goalkeeper with excellent distribution skills.” Hoffman will continue to hone her skills, as she will be the goalkeeper for the Edina Soccer Club.
Amanda Wurdeman has proven to be a prolific scorer at the high school level, and doing so in clutch situations. Wurdeman was named the Mississippi-8 Conference Rookie of the Year and was an All-Conference Honorable Mention in eighth grade.
Wurdeman received All-Conference honors from 2006-10 and led the conference in scoring in both her freshman and sophomore years. In 2007, Wurdeman led St. Michael-Albertville High School to a conference championship and a Section 5A runner-up finish, again leading the conference in scoring.
Wurdeman helped push the team over the top in 2008, as SAHS became Section 5A champions and conference champions. For her efforts Wurdeman received both All-Conference and All-Minnesota honorable mention honors and was name Star Tribune’s Prep Athlete of the Week.
Wurdeman capped off a great high school career in 2009 when she set the record for most goals in school history with 83. Her successes on the field were as notable as the ones in the classroom.
Wurdeman was an A-Honor Roll student from 2006-10 as well as an All-Conference Academic Team selection and a Distinguished Academic Achievement Award recipient all four years. Coach Bullock is excited about his new offensive threat as well.
“A great student, Amanda will contribute to the Dragons right away,” Bulock said. “She has a desire to take defenders on 1-on-1 which will had another dimension to our offense.”
Though both players will contribute at opposite ends of the field, both Hoffman and Wurdeman will be key members of a young but promising Dragon’s soccer team in 2010.
