MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons announced the signing of
Ashley Feldman to the 2010 volleyball squad. Feldman helps build upon an already youthful but experienced Dragon team.
After the 2009 season, the Dragons Volleyball team looked to fill the void left by departing seniors
Mary Sussenguth and
Keri Dowzak. Both Sussenguth and Dowzak were key members of a strong front three for the Dragons, and the loss was a big priority to Head Coach
Tammy Blake-Kath.
Feldman comes to the Dragons from Lake of the Woods High School in Baudette. The six-foot Feldman helps add depth up front where she enjoyed great success in high school.
Ashley was a member of one of the top high school volleyball programs in Northern Minnesota, which made it to the state tournament four of the last five years. Feldman was a Borderland Conference honorable mention in 2006 before being named to the All-Conference team the last three seasons.
In October, Feldman surpassed the 1,000-kill mark and ended with a career mark of 1,136 kills. This past season, Ashley was named captain of the team for the second straight season and finished the season with high honors.
Feldman was the Borderland Conference Senior of the Year as well as an All-Minnesota selection. Feldman chose to pursue volleyball as a collegiate sport despite her success as a basketball player.
Ashley left L.O.W.H.S as the school's all-time leading scorer and an All-State honorable mention. The past two seasons Feldman was named to the All-Conference team as well.
The addition of Feldman to the Dragons roster not only provides more depth to the bench, but also gives the Dragons a big scoring threat up front to go with a more experienced all around squad.
