MOORHEAD, Minn. – After adding depth to the upper weights, the Minnesota State University Moorhead Wrestling team added future talent to the lower weights by signing on Robert Otterness to the team.
Otterness will join the Dragons after completing his senior year at Cannon Falls High School. Robert had a great final season with CFHS, finishing with a record of 37-10 at 135 pounds. His career mark stands at 130-54 overall.
Last summer, Otterness placed eighth at the Junior Nationals wrestling tournament at the Fargodome, where he plans to return to this year to place even higher. Otterness will be projected to wrestle at either 133 or 141 pounds for the Dragons.
Next season, the Dragons plan to redshirt Otterness who can wrestle as an unattached wrestler, in order to have him ready to push for a starting position on the team for the 2011-2012 season.
At the Minnesota/U.S.A. Junior State Greco tournament in 2009, Otterness finished with a second place finish. This season at Cannon Falls, he placed sixth in the Minnesota state tournament at 135 pounds.
With his immediate future not fully set in stone, the Dragons look to Otterness to give them long-term success at the lower weight divisions.
