Dragons Track & Field Sends Eight to NCAA Championships

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons track and field team will send eight athletes, four individual and one relay, to compete at the NCAA DII Outdoor National Championships on May 27-29, in Charlotte, N.C. The list of qualifiers were announced on Wednesday.?

The eight Dragon athletes are among 52 NSIC athletes that are invited to attend the Championships. Six Dragons are male and two are female.??

The men's team will send Anthony Enyi and Laquone Robinson in the hammer throw and 110 meter hurdles, respectively. MSUM will also send the 4x400 relay team that is made up of Cory Shufelt, Percy Watson, Aaron Lund and Derek Bredy.

Enyi's toss of 58.88 meters at the Drake Relays qualified him for the Championships. He was a participant at the Indoor Championships in the weight throw with a ninth place finish nationally. He is currently ranked 14th.

Freshman, Robinson recorded a time of 14.47 in the 110-meter hurdles earlier this season. He is ranked No. 15 among the field. The fastest time posted in the event this season is by Jason Boyd of St. Augustine in a time of 13.93.

The Dragons relay team is ranked 12th among the qualifiers, with a time of 3:12.69.

On the women's side of the track, both Anna VanWechel and Kendra Mooberry are off to the races.

VanWechel currently  holds the sixth fastest time in the 1500 meter run, with a time of 4:31.06. She also participated in the NCAA Indoor Championships where she placed sixth in the one-mile run, to earn All-American honors.

Mooberry, a freshman, is separated by seven-tenths of  a second in her No. 11 ranking and the No. 5 time in the nation. Her time of 1:00.85 qualified her in the 400-meter hurdles.

The NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held on May 27-29 in Charlotte, N.C., at the Irwin Belk Complex at Johnson C. Smith University. Thursday will hold the hammer throw finals and the 400-meter hurdle preliminaries. On Friday, the 4x400 relay team will compete in their prelims as well as Robinson in the 110-meter hurdles prelims. All events will be finals on Saturday.
