Bredy and Robinson Lead Dragon Men to 2nd, Women Finish 7th at NSIC Championships

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Freshmen Laquone Robinson and Derek Bredy both came away as the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons team leaders on Saturday to a lead the men's team to a second place finish at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The women's squad finished seventh.

MEN
The men's team finished with 118.5 points, trailing the victors, Minnesota State Mankato who had 153.5 points.

Robinson, the only event champion for the Dragons, took first place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.59. It was his first NSIC Outdoor Title and second track and field title of the year as he took the 60 meter hurdles title at the indoor championships in March.

Bredy began his day with a sixth place finish in the triple jump. He had a leap of 13.87 meters (45' 6.25”) in the event.  He followed that with two All-Conference honors to match his first nod that he earned in the long jump on Friday. On day two, he finished second in the 100 meter dash and third in the 200 meter dash with times of 10.65 and 21.65, respectively.

Also earning All-Conference honors for the Dragon men were: Aaron Lund, 400 meter dash (3rd, 49.51), Chris Heil, hammer throw (day one, 2nd, 51.68 meters) and Luke Buchholz, decathlon (Apr. 25, 3rd, 6102 points).

The Dragons 4x100 relay team of Robinson, Brock Keaton, Uchenna Ogbonnaya and Bredy also took home All-NSIC honors with a second place finish in 41.80.

Other top eight finishes on day two for the Dragons include: Keaton, 100 meter dash (4th, 10.71), 200 meter dash (8th, 22.05); Ogbonnaya, 100 meter dash (7th, 10.91), 200 meter dash (7th, 22.02); Percy Watson, 400 meter dash (6th, 50.31); Clayton Foster, 800 meter run (7th, 1:56.41); Michael McConnell, 1500 meter run (6th, 3:59.74); Kyle Eckhoff, 1500 meter run (7th, 4:01.74); Eric Asfeld, 400 meter hurdles (5th, 56.78); Anthony Enyi, shot put (5th, 15.29 meters, 50' 2.0”); Christopher Heil, discus throw (5th, 46.02 meters,  151'); Jose Alba, discus throw (7th, 44.97 meters, 147' 6”).

WOMEN
The women's team finished seventh with 58 points, just five shy of catching the No. 5 slot that was held by Northern State (S.D.).

The Dragons had two second place finishes and a third place finish on day two to add to the one All-Conference nod that Kirby Black earned in the long jump on Friday.

Danielle Thompson took second place in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:01.67. It was her first All-NSIC honor.

The women's 4x400 relay team of Black, Kristina Anderson, Kendra Mooberry and Ashley Berg finished the race in second with a time of 3:54.71.

Berg finished third in the 400 meters hurdles to put up her best time of 1:05.52 and earn All-Conference honors.

Other top eight finishes for the Dragons included: Mooberry, 400 meter dash (5th, 55.86); Anna VanWechel, 800 meter run (7th, 2:27.67), 1500 meter run (4th, 4:34.64); Jessica Keesling, 100 meter hurdles (6th, 15.40); 4x100 relay (4th, 49.18); Black, triple jump (6th, 11.42 meters, 37' 5.75”).
