Dragon Men's Basketball Adds Three to 2010-11 Roster

MOORHEAD, Minn. – First year Head Coach Chad Walthall and his staff announced the addition of three student-athletes to the 2010-11 Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons men's basketball roster.

The Dragons welcome incoming freshman Scott Nystrom and Jordan Riewer as well as junior college transfer student Charlie Chapman.

“We are very excited with the addition of these three players to our program,” Walthall said. “They all add a certain skill set and have character traits, that fit the profile of what our vision is for the program as we move forward.”

Nystrom (6'2”, 180 lbs.), a recent graduate of St. Cloud Tech High School, ended his senior year as a Tiger (after playing at Kimball High School until his senior season) by being named to the All-Conference team after averaging 18.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. The Tigers went 22-5 in his senior season, as Nystrom led them to the State 4A championship game where he was honored on the All-State Tournament team in addition to being an All-State honorable mention.

In addition to being a four-year basketball letterwinner, he was a first-team All-Central Lakes Conference team member as well as named to the All-Region team. It was his third All-Conference (two prior were Central Minnesota Conference) honor as well as his second consecutive All-State honorable mention nod.

Riewer (6'1”, 165 lbs), will join the team as a guard after lettering at Staples-Motley High School five-times, becoming the all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,958 points.  His 16.8 points, 8.0 assists and 8.0 rebounds per game garnered him with the team's most valuable player award.

Along with his honors at SMHS, he was also a four-time member of the All-Mid State Conference team, two-time All-Section and three-time honorable mention All-State Minnesota. He was also a four-time letterwinner in baseball at SMHS where he garnered All-Conference and All-Section awards.

Chapman (5'11”, 180 lbs.), will become a Dragon after playing his first two collegiate seasons at Williston State College (N.D.) where he was a critical player in leading the Tetons to a perfect 14-0 Mon-Dak league record (25-7 overall). In his sophomore season he averaged 15.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

Last season he was named to the All-Conference team and also earned All-Region honors while leading the Tetons to a region title and as district-runners up. The 2007 graduate of Hartland Arrowhead High School (Hartland, Wisc.) where he averaged 18.1 points and 4.6 assists per game while leading the team to a state semi-final appearance in 2006.

The three will join the Dragons in the fall of 2010, when school begins on Aug. 23.
