Dragons Host NSIC Cross Country Championships

Moorhead, M.N. – The NSIC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championship will be held on Saturday, October 22nd at Ponderosa Golf Club in Glyndon, Minn. The women's 6K race will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the men's 8K race at 12:00 p.m.

The Dragon men's cross country team finished second, and women finish third at the annual Roe Granger Invitational on October 7, 2011. Clayton Foster finished in 26:52.00 to take first with a spilt time was 5:24.3 (avg. mile) in the 8k.  The Dragon women's team finished third with Danielle Thompson taking second with a time of 19:40.00 and spilt time of 6:19.8 (avg. mile) in the 5k.  Other notable finishes for the women's team includes sophomore Megan Ackerman, finishing in 10th, and freshman Savannah Link who finished 12th.
 
To start the season, Foster led all Dragon runners to an eighth place finish in the Augustana Twilight with a time of 19:44.20.  Thompson led all Dragon women runners with a 10th place finish and a time of 17:43.79.  Taylor Johnson and Jason Dowell had notable times for the men's runners with a 12th and 18th place finish, respectively. 

The Randy Smith Invitational, the lone home event for the Dragons cross country, was the setting for a third place men's finish and sixth place finish for the women's runners.  Sophomore Spencer Ruebke was the top runner for the men's team with a sixth place finish and a time of 25:24.79.  Thompson again was the top runner for the women's side as she finished fourth with a time of 22:03.21.

The biggest competition came for the Dragons during the Roy Griak Invitational.  27 teams competed on the men's side and 22 for the women's.  Foster recorded the highest team finish of 40th of 322 total runners.  Foster's time of 26:40 helped guide the Dragons to an 11th place finish.  Ackerman took top honors for the women's team as she finished 96th of 150 total runners.  The women's team finished 22nd for the event.
