NEW ORLEANS -- Minnesota State University Moorhead senior Derek Bredy has been named the Division II National Men's Athlete of the Week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, it was announced on Monday.

Bredy's outstanding weekend helped the Dragon men to a strong second-place finish at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships last weekend in Mankato, Minn.

He ran the division's fastest time at 200 in the prelims, clocking in at 21.43 (converted to 21.06), and finished second in the finals at 21.69. He claimed titles at 60 meters and in the long jump to boost his team, running a 6.83 in the 60 finals and leaping 24-1 1/2 (7.35m) to win the long jump by nearly a foot.

His 60 prelim time of 6.78 is the eighth-best in DII this season, and his long jump mark is tied for ninth in the division. He also ran a leg of the runner-up 4×400 relay team and finished third in the triple jump at 46-4 (14.12).

As a result of his 39-point performance, Bredy was named NSIC High Point Performer of the Year for the fifth time in his career.
