Heidi Lensing and
Alex Novak have been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Honor Student-Athlete Award winners, it was announced on Wednesday.
The two Dragon student-athletes earned the honor after they were nominated for the NSIC's top student-athlete awards -- the Willis R. Kelly Scholar-Athlete Award (going to the NSIC's top female student-athlete) and the Dr. William Britton Scholar-Athlete Award (to the NSIC's top male student-athlete).
Lensing wrapped up an outstanding career for the Dragon volleyball team last fall. She finished with 1,283 career kills, fourth all-time in school history. She was a three-time NSIC All-Academic selection and also was also named a Myles Brand All-Academic With Distinction Award Winner by the NSIC. Lensing, who has a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.96, will graduate this spring with a degree in business administration with an emphasis in management.
Likewise, Novak concluded a stellar Dragon basketball career in March. He leaves MSUM as the school's all-time leader in rebounds (1,054) and blocked shots (223). He was named a CoSida Capital One Academic All-American last year, becoming the first Dragon student-athlete in four years to earn the honor. He was named to the Daktronics All-Central Region second-team and was also a first-team All-NSIC selection in 2012-13. Novak is one of two Dragons to surpass 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for his career. Novak is a biochemistry major with a 3.85 GPA.
