Rieland and Walsh Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Team

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State University Moorhead swimmers Megan Rieland and Rachel Walsh have been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America Capital One Academic  All-District 7 Women's At-Large team, it was announced on Friday.

To be eligible for academic all-district honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA at his/her institution. Nominated athletes must have competed in 50 percent of his/her team's events.

Rieland, a junior from Sauk Centre, Minn., is a biology major with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA). As a junior, she was one of the Dragon swimming and diving team's top point scorers at 366.75 points during year, which was fifth-best on the team. She was also part of two relays that set school records, the 200 freestyle (1:36.50) and 400 freestyle (3:32.13). In addition, she was named to NSIC All-Academic Team for the winter season.

Walsh, a sophomore from Fitchburg, Wis., is a biochemistry major with a 3.98 GPA. She had a strong sophomore campaign for the Dragon swimming and diving team. She finished third on the team in points scored with 447.25. She had seven runner-up finished and was also part of two relays that set school records, the 200 freestyle (1:36.50) and 400 freestyle (3:32.13).  She also was named to the NSIC All-Academic Team for the winter season.

Both Rieland and Walsh will advance to the national CoSIDA Academic All-American ballot as a result of being to the All-District 7 Women's At-Large team.
