MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis coach
Oliver Summers has announced that Nicole Jones of Riverside, Calif., and Rebecca Lukes of Alexandria, Minn., have signed letters of intent to continue their athletic and academic careers at MSUM starting this fall.
Jones is a senior at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, where she has compiled a stellar career in doubles play. She has a 193-27 career record and was undefeated during her senior year. She was Athlete of the Year in 2012 and earned Most Dedicated honors, Coach's Award and MVP honors during her career. She is a four-year letterwinner overall in tennis.
"Nicole is going to add strength and depth to our lineup particularly in doubles," Summers said. "She went undefeated in her senior year in California and I'm very happy that she's going to be joining our team."
Lukes is an accomplished player from Alexandria High School, where she was a teammate of current Dragon
Jenna Galstad. Lukes finished 24-6 as a senior, setting a single-season school record for wins. She has a 72-25 singles record over the last five years. She was a two-time all-conference selection, a two-time team MVP, a two-time captain, and was named a Central Lakes Conference performer of the week during her junior and senior years. She also placed third in the section as a senior.
"Rebecca is an accomplished singles player and her school record of 24 wins in her senior year speaks for itself," Summers said. "She knows how to win matches and will be a great asset for us next season."
Jones and Lukes join Jessamy Jones of East Grand Forks, Minn., as Dragon signees for 2013-14.
