MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball coach
Tammy Blake has announced the addition of four recruits for the 2013 season. Signing national letters of intent for MSUM are
Claire Grimm of Eagan, Minn.,
Katie Meyers of Crystal Lake, Ill., and
Kara Ziemer of Elk River, Minn. In addition,
Carly Masloski of Underwood, Minn., will also continue her athletic and academic career at MSUM.
Grimm is a 5-foot-10 outside/right side hitter from Eastview High School. She was named most improved player for two consecutive years and helped lead her team to all-conference runner-up honors. She is a three-year letterwinner and also played for Kokoro Volleyball Club.
"She brings offensive and blocking power on the outside and right side," Blake said. "She is athletic with great jumping ability."
Meyers is a 5-foot-2 libero/defensive specialist from Crystal Lake South High School in Illinois. She was a two-time all-conference player and also was named to the Fox Valley All-Area team as a senior. She was a two-time team captain and also a two-time team MVP. During her senior year she finished with 353 digs and 33 service aces.
"We love her passing and ball-control," Blake said. "She's a spark-plug type player."
Ziemer is a 5-foot-8 outside hitter from Elk River High School. He finished with 780 career kills and 580 career digs. She had 354 kills and 220 digs as a senior. She was named all-conference and was a two-time team MVP. She also played for the Minnesota One Volleyball Club in Bloomington, Minn., for four years.
"She is a six-rotation player," Blake said. "She will be a good addition to us because of her offensive and passing ability."
Masloski is a 6-foot outside hitter from Underwood High School, where she put together an impressive career. She finished with 1,167 career kills (second in school history), 789 digs, 61 solo blocks and 141 assisted blocks, along with 138 service aces. She had a career-high 486 kills as a senior. She was a three-time all-conference player, a two-time team MVP, an all-state selection and an all-state tournament team selection during her career.
"She can play all three spots in the front row," Blake said. "We're excited about her ability to play all of those positions."
The four recruits join
Brianna Atkins of Rochester, Minn., who signed during the early signing period in November.
"They will help fill the holes of the seniors we lost," Blake said. "They are a talented group."
