Ashley Wood was named the MSUM women's tennis team's Most Improved Player in 2013.
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis coach
Oliver Summers has announced the Dragons' 2013 season award winners. The Dragons wrapped up their first season under Summers with a win over Minnesota-Crookson on April 12.
Freshman
Morgan Smith was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Smith led the Dragons with a 6-7 singles record, including a 6-6 mark in conference play. She also teamed up with fellow freshman
Cassie Smith for a 5-6 mark.
"Morgan led the team in wins and after starting at No. 4 singles she finished at 2 and continued to get wins wherever she played in singles and doubles," Summers said. "She was also consistently involved in volunteer activities and fundraising efforts, which is a valuable part of being on the team."
The team's Most Improved Player was freshman
Ashley Wood, who finished second on the team with three singles wins.
"Ashley steadily improved throughout the season gaining consistency and mental toughness," Summers said. "She worked her way up the lineup and I'm excited to see her perform next year."
The Captain Award went to junior
Kaitlin McNary, who was a solid player in doubles for MSUM with three wins.
"Kaitlin was a great example for the rest of the team throughout the entire season," Summers said "She showed the rest of the team how to carry oneself not only when you win but more importantly when you lose a match, and how to bounce back."
