MSUM Track and Field Teams Claim Four Wins at St. Thomas Showcase

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota State University  Moorhead track and field teams won four events during competition at the St. Thomas Showcase which was held Friday in St. Paul, Minn.

Senior Keith Turner (600 meters) and junior Nate Cole (triple jump) captured wins for the Dragon men, while juniors Chelsea Klemetson (high jump) and Tia Knight (60-meter dash) claimed victories for the MSUM women.

No team scores were kept.

Turner had a strong showing in the 600-meter run, claiming the win with a personal-best time of  1:22.45 to win the event by .70 seconds.

Cole won the triple jump at 43-11 3/4, capturing the win by more than eight inches. Sophomore Marshal Pederson was third at 42-11.

Senior Ryan Olson was second in the 400 at 50.39 and tied for a runner-up finish in the high jump at 6-4 1/4. Pederson was also tied for second in the high jump at 6-4 1/4.

Junior Jonathan Demus was second in the 60-meter dash at 6.97 and second in the 200-meter dash at 23.00. Junior Steve Jonas tied for third in the pole vault at 11-11 3/4.

Junior Jackson Henrich placed third in the shot put at 47-4 1/4 and was fourth in the weight throw at 53-5 1/2.

For the women, Klemetson tied for the win in the high jump with a season-best of 5-4 1/4.Knight continued the strong start to her Dragon career, winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.73.

The Dragon women went 2-3 in the mile, as freshman MaKenzie Smith took second at 5:16.03 with sophomore Emily Mammenga taking third at 5:18.02.

Sophomore Sarah Knight was third in the pole vault at 10-6. Jasmine Nelson and freshman Katie Holzheimer tied for third in the 200-meter dash with identical 27.43 records.

Sophomore Mallory Stier placed third in the shot put at 41-3 1/4 and was fourth in the weight throw at 49-1 3/4.

MSUM will send a small contingent of athletes to the Jack Johnson Classic on Saturday. The Dragons will compete at the Cobber Duals on Saturday, Feb. 1.
