SDSU Indoor Invite ScheduleMOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams are in action this week at the South Dakota State Indoor Invitational, which begins Friday and concludes Saturday in Brookings, S.D.
Events are slated to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday and at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The meet will be held at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings. The meet is slated to be the largest in SDSU school history with more than 1,500 athletes from 40 different colleges competing.
MSUM is also expected to send several athletes to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Multi-Event Competition, which is set for Feb. 15-16 in Mankato, Minn.
Last Time Out: Dragons Win Eight Events at Thundering Herd ClassicThe Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams claimed eight wins during the two-day Thundering Herd Classic, which was held at North Dakota State last Friday and Saturday.
MSUM men's 4x400 relay won in impressive fashion, taking the win by nearly four seconds over NDSU's team. Combining for the winning time of 3:15.81 were senior
Keith Turner, junior
Kenny Andri, senior
Ryan Olson and junior
Matt Loehr. That time is the fastest in the NSIC this season and also ranks second nationally after being adjusted for track size.
For the Dragon men, senior
Keith Turner won the 600-meter run in 1:21.30, which is the second-fastest time in school history. It is also the fastest time in the NSIC this season.
MSUM claimed a win in the 5,000-meter run with senior
Jason Dowell winning in 15:26.30. Sophomore
Brandon Selbig won the 1-mile open with a time of 4:34.04. Junior
Jack Peterson won the 800-meter open in 1:59.53.
For the Dragon women, senior
Chelsea Klemetson won the seeded high jump with a height of 5-7 1/4, which was an indoor personal best. Klemetson's height is second-best in the NSIC this season. Junior
Emily Mammenga won the seeded 1,000-meter run in 3:02.05.
Sophomore
Alissa Mears was second in the seeded 800-meter run in 2:14.81 with junior
Molly Montonye fourth in 2:15.17, which was an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Mears already posted a provisional qualifying time earlier this season at the Dakota Duals (2:13.79), which is still the best time in the NSIC.
