Seniors
Keith Turner and
Ryan Olson delivered titles for the Dragon men. Turner had an outstanding performance in the 600-meter run, which he won in 1:20.11, setting a new NSIC indoor meet record. It was also a personal-best time, a new school record and more than three seconds faster than his preliminary time.
Olson had a solid performance to capturing the conference title in the 400 meters. He won the race in 48.98, which is tied for 13th-best in the nation after being converted for track size (48.22).
Knight recorded the second NSIC indoor title of her career in impressive fashion, winning the 60-meter hurdles in 8.53, which is tied for fourth-best in all of Division II. That time broke the school record of 8.58 she had set earlier this season at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic. Knight also earned All-NSIC in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.27 and added a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash in 7.73.
Two other Dragons earned All-NSIC honors with top three finishes in her event. Senior
Kenny Andri was third in the men's 400-meter run with a time of 50.01. On the women's side, junior
Molly Montonye earned all-conference honors in the mile with a time of 4:59.27, which placed her third.
The MSUM men had several athletes score points on Friday. Freshman
Josh Young was fourth in the 1,000-meter run in 2:34.53 while sophomore
Brady Speicher was fourth in the mile in 4:24.70. Senior
Matt Loehr was fourth in the 400 meters in 50.07.
Senior
Beau Scheving was fifth in the shot put in 51-11 3/4. Senior
Jonathan Demus was sixth in the 60-meter dash in 7.00 while sophomore
Cody Christ was seventh in the 5,000-meter run in 15:06.41.
MSUM's men's 4x400 relay team, which was ranked first, had a runner get injured during the race and did not finish.
For the Dragon women, freshman
Caroline Jansen was fourth in the triple jump in 37-10. Sophomore
Alissa Mears was fifth in 800-meter run in 2:16.41 while
Emily Mammenga was fifth in the 1,000-meter run in 2:57.50.
The Dragon men finished with four champions on the indoor side:
Brian Huber (long jump), the distance medley relay, Turner (600) and Olson (400). Knight and
Chelsea Klemetson (high jump) won titles for the Dragon women.
MSUM will learn on Tuesday which athletes will qualify for the NCAA Division Indoor Championships, which will be held on March 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala.
