Molly Montonye advanced to the finals of the women's 1,500 meters at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday in Allendale, Mich.
Montonye had a strong run in Thursday's prelims, finishing with the fourth-fastest time of 4:28.87 to advance. She competed in the first heat and the top four times on Thursday all came from the first heat.
A two-time All-American in track and field, Montonye will now run in the 1,500-meter finals on Saturday at 1:25 p.m. Central time. A finish in the top eight will ensure Montonye All-American honors.
Redshirt freshman
Brian Huber finished 11th in the men's long jump with an effort of 24-2 1/2. He was just two inches away from eighth place, which would have given him All-American status. Huber will compete in the high jump at 1:05 p.m. Central time on Saturday.
Sophomore
Cody Christ finished 12th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:30.92. Christ improved on his seeding position of 17th by five spots on his first trip to the outdoor track nationals.
Senior
Chelsea Klemetson will compete in the women's high jump at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. She will be the lone Dragon to compete on Friday. Montonye will run in the 1,500-meter run finals on Saturday while Huber will also compete in the men's high jump that day.
