Day 1 ResultsDay 2 Heats and Lane AssignmentsMOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams claimed four runner-up finishes during the opening day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Championships, which are being held at the USF Complex in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Bailey ReinerWith seven events scored, the MSUM men are in seventh place with 24 points while the women are in eighth at 19. A majority of the events will be completed on Saturday, however.
The top three in each event earn All-NSIC honors. The Dragons had five individuals earn the honors on Friday.
Senior
Andrew Werk earned all-conference honors in the hammer throw, taking second at 176-10. It is the second All-NSIC honor of the 2015 year for Werk, who was all-conference in the shot put indoors.
Redshirt freshman
Brian Huber earned All-NSIC honors in the long jump, finishing second at 24-1 1/2. It is the second all-conference honor of the season for Huber, who was All-NSIC in the long jump indoors.
Sophomore
Cody Christ was second in the 10,000-meter run in 31:14.38 to pick up the second All-NSIC honor of his career in that event. Christ also was runner-up in 2013.
Senior
Chelsea Klemetson, paced the Dragon women on Friday. She tied for second in the high jump at 5-5 3/4 to earn All-NSIC honors in that event. She has earned two all-conference honors in that event at MSUM and is an NCAA automatic qualifier in that event after setting a school record of 5-9 3/4 at the Masanz Classic.
Freshman
Bailey Reiner had an excellent showing in the women's long jump, placing third at 5.65 to earn All-NSIC honors, the first of her young Dragon career.
Sophomore Makenzie Smith was fifth in the 10,000-meter run with a school record time of 36:57.08.
PrelimsSenior
Tia Knight qualified for the finals in three events. She advanced in the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.05, which was second-fastest on the day. She will run in the finals at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday. Knight advanced in the 100-meter dash in 12.07 and will run in the final of that event at 2:35 p.m. The senior also qualified in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 25.27. Knight will run in the finals of the 200 at 3:20 p.m. on Saturday.
MSUM qualified two individuals in the women's 800 meters. Sophomore
Alissa Mears was the fastest qualifier in the prelims at 2:14.81 while junior
Molly Montonye was third-fastest in 2:15.34.
Montonye and junior
Emily Mammenga both qualified for the finals in the women's 1,500 meters. Montonye ran the second-fastest time in the prelims of 4:45.68, while Mammenga ran the fourth-fastest time of 4:45.81. Both will run in the 1,500 finals at 1:50 p.m. on Saturday.
Three Dragons qualified for the 1,500-meter run finals. Sophomore
Brady Speicher was the third-fastest in 4:00.60 while freshman
Josh Young (4:05.83) and senior
Jason Dowell (4:06.04) also advanced. Those three will run in the finals at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Three Dragons also qualified in the men's 400-meter dash. Senior
Ryan Olson ran the second-fastest time in Friday's prelims at 49.02 to advance. Seniors
Kenny Andri (49.08) and
Matt Loehr (49.94) also qualified. The finals in the 400 are set for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Young also qualified for the finals in the men's 800 meters. His 1:55.04 prelim time was second-fastest. Young will run in the final of that event at 2:50 p.m. on Saturday.
The final day of competition is set for Saturday in Sioux Falls.
