Molly Montonye has been earned National Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, it was announced on Monday.
The National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week to six collegiate cross country athletes (male and female for each of the three NCAA divisions).
The national honor is the first of Montonye's illustrious Dragon career.
The Graceville, Minn., native won the Randy Smith 4K Women's race at the Dragon Twilight meet last Friday in Moorhead, Minn. Montonye won the race with a time of 13:48.1, which was 1.2 seconds ahead of Minnesota Duluth's Emilee Trost, who was 18th at the national meet last season.
The Dragons teams are in action on Sept. 26 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
