JAMESTOWN, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead cross country teams dominated the Jimmie Invitational on Friday on their way to sweeping the event. The Dragon women won with 25 points, led by a win by senior
Molly Montonye, while the men won with a perfect 15 score thanks to a victory from senior
Cody Christ.
"It was a good tuneup for the conference meet," MSUM head cross country
Ryan Milner said. "It was nice to see everyone rebound from the Roy Griak meet. Everybody ran a PR for the most part, or close to it."
The MSUM women won with 25 points, easily besting Concordia, which was second with 70. Montonye led the Dragon women to the win, claiming the 5K in 17:50. She jumped out on the field early and never lost control.
Senior teammate
MaKenzie Smith was second in 18:28 followed by sophomore
Marissa Carlson was third in 18:45. Senior
Mindy Kraft was seventh in 19:13 while freshman
Kathryn Sistrunk was 12th in 19:20. Sophomore
Alicia Swenson was 16th in 19:49 with freshman
Jenna Wegscheid 17th in 19:50.
The men swept the top six spots on their way to a perfect score of 15. Christ won in 24:52 for his second
"He just took off from the start," Milner said.
Sophomore
Josh Young took second in 25:27. Senior
Brady Speicher was third in 25:44 while freshman
Nadir Yusuf was fourth in 25:47 while sophomore
Joshua Ernst was fifth in 25:56. Junior
Jay Biwer was sixth in 26:00. Freshman
Logan Spooner gave MSUM a seventh runner in the top 10, taking ninth in 26:16.
MSUM now turns its attention to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships which are set for Oct. 22 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
"After today I am pretty confident. We should have some individuals contend for titles," Milner said. "The guys should contend for the win and the women should be a top three team."
