Caroline Jansen recorded a sixth-place finish in the women's pentathlon during the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Multi Events held Sunday at Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minn.
Jansen's finish gave the Dragon women three team points in the NSIC Indoor Championships, which will resume later this month in Mankato.
Jansen finished with 3,456 points --- which is an NCAA provisional qualifying point total -- in a competitive pentathlon that saw the top eight places separated by less than 400 points. Olivia Montez Brown of Augustana won with 3,641 points.
The best two finishes for Jansen came in the long jump and 800-meter run, where she finished third in both. Her long jump effort was 17-9 1/2 while her 800 time was 2:26.29. She was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.10) and in the shot put (34-5).
The first four events of the men's heptathlon were held on Sunday. MSUM freshmen
Andrew Schonnesen is in seventh place with 2,581 points, just three points out of sixth. He is trailing first place by just 224 points. Junior
Mitchell Ruebke is at 2,156 points after the first day.
Schonnesen and Ruebke will complete the heptathlon on Monday.
