ResultsPITTSBURG, Kan. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's track and field team earned its second All-American of the weekend as junior
Brady Speicher earned the honors in the mile on Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kan.. Speicher finished in sixth place in the event to earn the first All-American honor of his Dragon career.
Speicher joins sophomore teammate
Brian Huber as an All-Americans for the Dragon men at this year's indoor championships. Huber was sixth in the long jump on Friday.
In the prelims on Friday, Speicher ran a 4:05.18, which was a personal-best and second-fastest time that day.
In the finals, the pace was slower as all nine runners battled in a tight pack. Speicher ran a time of 4:15.34 to finish in sixth. Oliver Aitchison of Adams State used a late surge over the final meters to secure the win in 4:12.69.
"I anticipated a faster pace from the get-go," MSUM associate head coach
Ryan Milner said. "The idea was to find a position in the top half of the field and make a move with 600 meters left. For his first time at a national championship, it was a good run for him."
The event wrapped up the indoor season for MSUM. The Dragons are scheduled to open the outdoor season on April 2 at the Vance Butler Invite in Sioux Falls, S.D.
