AZUSA, Calif. — Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field junior
Brady Speicher ran an NCAA automatic qualifying time and set a school record in the 1,500 during competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational Friday in Azusa, Calif.
Speicher ran a 1,500 time of 3:44.63 — breaking a school record that had stood for more than 40 years. That is the second-fastest time in Division II this season. It is more than a second faster than the NCAA DII qualifying time of 3:45.65. He placed 19th out of the field of 207 runners in that event.
Sophomore
Josh Young also competed in the 1,500 and had a good performance. He an an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:49.71, which also set a new personal-best. Young finished fourth in his section of 18 runners in 3:49.71.Young was 60th overall out of more than 200 runners.
Junior
Alissa Mears was fourth in her section of the women's 800 meters in 2:15.77. She was 53rd overall out of 117 runners. Her time was the fastest for her this outdoor season.
MSUM will have several athletes compete at the Long Beach Invitational on Saturday. Speicher and Young will compete in both the 1,500 and 800, while Mears will run in the 800. Sophomore
Caroline Jansen will run in the 100-meter hurdles while sophomore
Brian Huber will compete in the long jump.
