MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University women's basketball team is set to open practice Sunday for the 2017-18 season.
The Dragons are entering their 18th season under the direction of Head Coach
Karla Nelson. MSUM has never had a losing season in Nelson's 17 previous years of head coach.
MSUM won the NSIC regular season title in 2016-17 and was the NSIC North champion for a second straight year.
MSUM returns the 2016-17 NSIC Player of the Year, senior forward
Drew Sannes who led the team in points with 444, averaging 15.3 points per game. She also led the team with 242 rebounds. Senior guard
Cassidy Thorson had a total of 409 points last season and led the team with a .397 three-point percentage. Junior guard
Jacky Volkert racked up 369 points last year, averaging 12.7 points per game.
The Dragons will play first play exhibition games at South Dakota State on Oct. 26 and at University of Iowa on Nov. 5.
