BROOKINGS, S.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team dropped a 93-58 exhibition game to Division I foe South Dakota State in action Thursday night in Brookings, S.D.
The exhibition is one of two games the Dragons will play prior to opening the regular season on Nov. 16 at home against Michigan Tech.
Freshman guard
Brooklyn Liegel led the Dragons with 13 points. Sophomore guard
Kourtney Selensky and junior forward
Dierra Diegel had seven points each while senior guard
Cassidy Thorson had six. Freshman guard
Lauren Fech led with five rebounds while freshman guard
Ashley Davis had three assists. Selensky had two blocks while senior forward
Drew Sannes had two steals.
MSUM shot 40.4 percent (19-of-47) for the game compared to 46.8 percent for the Jackrabbits, who were led by 14 points from guard Madison Guebert. SDSU forced 27 Dragon turnovers which led to a 41-6 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Dragons had a 36-35 edge in rebounds.
After trailing by 10 at halftime, MSUM cut into the lead in the third quarter as Thorson drained a three to make it 45-40 with 6:31 left. The Jackrabbits went on a 23-9 run to close the quarter in building a 68-49 advantage after three frames.
The Dragons trailed 41-31 at halftime despite shooting 50 percent (11-of-22) in the first half. Liegel had eight points in the first half for MSUM while Selensky had five.
MSUM will play Big Ten foe Iowa in an exhibition on Nov. 5 in Iowa City.
