MANKATO, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead junior
Brian Huber picked up his third indoor title of his career in the long jump at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships which are being held in Mankato, Minn. On the women's side senior
Katrina Mellegard earned All-NSIC honors in the weight throw.
Emily Waletzko was sixth in the weight throw.
The Dragon men are in seventh place with 15 points after the first day while the women are in seventh with 15 points.
Huber claimed the long jump title for a third straight indoor season with an effort of 24-9 3/4, which is an NCAA provisional qualifying jump. The Dragon men earned 10 team points with the win.
Mellegard's outstanding indoor season continued as she earned All-NSIC honors in the weight throw with a toss of 61-9 3/4, which placed her third. That is an NCAA provisional qualifying toss and not far from the school record she set last week.
Junior
Caroline Jansen was sixth in the long jump at 18-3 1/4. Jansen had finished seventh in the heptathlon earlier this season.
MSUM's men's distance medley relay was seventh in 10:37. That consisted of freshman Devin Derringer, freshman
Ryan Kalinowski, senior
Brandon Selbig and freshman
Nick Marshall.
MSUM's women's distance medley relay was eighth in 12:52.76. That consisted of sophomore
Alicia Swenson, freshman
Alexis Jensen, sophomore
Samantha Swenson and sophomore
Marissa Carlson.
Prelims
Freshman
Zach Sweep qualified in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.21, which was the fastest time in the prelims and an NCAA provisional qualifying time.
Junior
Josh Young qualified in the 1,000-meter run in 2:34.62. Junior
Brian Huber qualified in the 200-meter dash in 22.12, which was the fastest prelim time.
Sophomore
Evan Carlson qualified in the 400 in 51.05 while freshman
Cody Gagner qualified in the 800-meter run in 1:56.74
For the women, senior
Alissa Mears won her heat in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.34 to qualify for the finals.
Carlson qualified in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:59.22, which was second-fastest of the prelims. Jansen advanced in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.86.
Day 2 of the NSIC Indoor Championships is set for Saturday.
