MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon track and field teams competed at the Cobber-Dragon Duals on Tuesday at the Concordia campus. The Dragons had a split squad competing on the Irv Christianson Track while the remainder of the team continued final preparations for their California competitions.
The Dragon women were led by senior
Katrina Mellegard who crushed the hammer competition in a throw of a 152-09.36.
In addition to Mellegard's victory, other winners for the women were
Katie Holzheimer (200 meter dash),
Alexis Jensen (400),
Mariah Schroeder (100-meter hurdles) and
Emily Waletzko (shot put).
On the men's side, senior
Adam Hanson won the men's 400 meter hurdles in 1:00.8. Senior
Devin Strack won the triple jump at 45-0 1/2 while
Peter Bateman won the hammer throw at 150-1 1/4.
In her final tune up before California, junior
Caroline Jansen set a personal record in the high jump, clearing five feet for the first time.
The busy week for Dragon track and field continues as the team travels to the Northern State Twilight on Thursday in Aberdeen, S.D. and to southern California on the hunt for national qualifying marks.
