MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball coach Karla Nelson has announced the signing of three student-athletes for the 2017-18 season. Joining MSUM this fall will be Kiley Borowicz of Roseau, Minn.., Ashley Davis of Belcourt, N.D., and Shannon Poppen of DeSmet, S.D.

"This late signing period has topped off a great 2016-17 year on many fronts," Nelson said. "We are ecstatic that we have been able to add three more tremendous student-athletes to our Dragon family and we couldn't be more excited for the future of Dragon women's basketball."

Kiley Borowicz (G, 5-8, Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS)
Minnesota Miss Basketball Finalist…led Roseau to 32-0 record and Class AA championship…finished with 3,223 career points, 13th most in Minnesota history…had 921 career rebounds, 583 career points and 423 career assists…named Northwest Conference Player of the Year and is a four-time all-conference honoree…AP all-state in basketball in 2016…player of the year in Class AA…had a quadruple double at the state tournament, 18th player in Minnesota to do that…averaged 25.9 points per game as a senior…mother, Tracy, played at MSUM for four years.

"Kiley is a winner and it was fun to watch her lead Roseau to an AA State Championship this past year," Nelson said. "Her list of accomplishments is quite amazing, but in the end she is going to do anything to will her team to victory. She adds a toughness to our perimeter that we felt we needed to address and will bring a different level of intensity to our guard position. Kiley has the ability to score the basketball in so many different ways, which makes her a tough guard. Kiley's mom, Tracy, is a Dragon Women's Basketball alum. We are definitely excited that she is following in her mom's footsteps and cannot wait for Kiley to take the court in Dragon red."

Ashley Davis (G, 5-9, Belcourt, N.D./Bismarck HS)
Two-time second team all-state selection…four-year all-conference player…1,000-point scorer, finishing with more than 1,300 points…averaged 13 points, six rebounds and 2.5 steals per game with a career-high 32 points…five-year letterwinner in both basketball and volleyball.

"Ashley provides us with another playmaker on the floor, similar to what Natalie Van Wyhe and Jacky Volkert have been able to do for us in the past," Nelson said. "Ashley's court vision is probably the most impressive part of her game and then her overall ability to pick and choose her times that she wants to score the basketball. She is an extremely hard worker and has a basketball game that will translate well to college. She understands the game and we have enjoyed the relationship we have been able to form with her and her family throughout the recruiting process."

Shannon Poppen (F, 6-0, DeSmet, S.D./DeSmet HS)
Third-team all-state selection…all-conference first-team selection…part of team that finished third in the state in 2015…finished with 872 career points, 578 rebounds and 120 steals…four-year letterwinner in basketball…also lettered in volleyball, track and cross country.

"Shannon adds depth to our roster at the post position," Nelson said. "Her athletic build and frame will allow her to flourish when she gets to just focus on basketball. She is agile and has the ability to show her athleticism in the open floor. Shannon has a great skill set to work with and she is ready to hit the ground running once she gets on campus."
