TORRANCE, Calif. — Minnesota State University Moorhead senior
Cody Christ ran a NCAA provisional qualifying time at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif., on Thursday. Christ is part of the Dragon contingent of athletes who are competing at elite meets in California.
MSUM also send a group of athletes to the Northern State Twilight meet in Aberdeen, S.D.
Running at the prestige Mt. SAC Relays, Christ hit an NCAA provisionally national qualifying mark in the 10,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 30:25.43. That performance is a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference-leading time and the current 11th-best time in nation.
Across town, Dragon juniors
Caroline Jansen and
Bailey Reiner made the finals in the long jump at the Cal State Los Angeles Twilight Open. Jansen finished fourth in 18-09.00, she also moved up to seventh on MSUM's all-time list in the 100 meter hurdles finishing 12th in 14.72. She will compete in the triple jump later tonight. Reiner finished ninth in 17-08.50.
Freshman
Nadir Yusuf ran a personal-best of 15:12.76 in the 5,000 meter run at the Bryan Clay Invite hosted by Azusa Pacific University. That time is the third-best in the NSIC this year.
Closer to home, a small group of Dragon athletes competed at the NSU Twilight. Battling the strong winds, Freshman
Nicole Kurtti lead the Dragons winning the triple jump in leap of 36-03.00.
On the men's side, senior
Devin Strack took second in the triple jump in jump of 42-00.00.
Also on the day, freshman
Destiny Meyer finished fifth in the shot put (39-04.50), junior
Iveta Harner placed fourth in the 200 meter dash (27.24) and sixth in the 400 meter dash (1:00.74), and freshman
Evan Carlson was sixth in the 400 meter dash (52.34)
