FARGO, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams recorded three wins at the Lyle Hokanson Classic hosted by North Dakota State University on Saturday.
In a field of competitors peppered with Division I athletes, senior
Alissa Mears had a stand-out day. She ran a personal-best in the 400m dash (57.01) which earned her a runner-up finish and is the second best time in the NSIC this year. Mears also ran the 200m dash (25.95) and anchored the 4x400 relay team. The women's 4x4, ran by Mears, junior
Judith Robinson, junior
Iveta Harner, and freshman
Summer Storm, beat out the NDSU team on the back stretch to capture the win in 3:55.73.
Freshman
Kathryn Sistrunk recorded the lone women's individual event victory, winning the 5,000-meter run in 18:19.97, a personal best. Robinson, who contributed to the 4 by 400m win, also had a solid day on the track placing third in the 200 dash (24.78) and fifth in the 100 dash (12.27).
Elsewhere on the track, junior
Caroline Jansen placed second in the long jump (18-06.50) and eighth in the 200 dash (25.62), and sophomore
Marissa Carlson placed third in the steeplechase (11:57.94).
The Dragon men were led by freshman
Devin Deringer, who recorded his first collegiate win in the steeplechase (10:45.39). It was his first time running the event. Freshmen
Cody Gagner and
Ryan Kalinowski had a strong showing in the 800m run placing second (1:56.14) and fifth (1:58.21), respectively. Sophomore
Jonas Matzen was sixth in the high jump (6-04.00)
The Dragons return to action this week. A competition is scheduled for Tuesday at Concordia-Moorhead. MSUM sent a contingency of runners to the Drake Relays while the rest of the team will compete at the Al Cassell Relays hosted by the University of Jamestown.
