MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball players Cassidy Thorson and Jacky Volkert will play on the USA D-2 Basketball Team Tour in Brazil from July 31-Aug. 9. The tour is coordinated by USA Sports Tours and Events.

Thorson will be a senior this year for the Dragons while Volkert will be a junior.

"I have been playing basketball my entire life," Thorson said. "It's coming up on my senior year of college, which also means my last year of ever getting to play organized basketball. Fortunately receiving the opportunity to play basketball while representing the USA right before my senior year is an amazing way to tip off this last year. I am so honored to have been given this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"

"I'm very grateful for this opportunity to experience another culture through basketball and can't wait to see the world from another point of view," Volkert said. "I am also looking forward to play with my new teammates and getting to know them on and off the court."

Thorson averaged 14.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game last season for MSUM while leading the team with 85 three-pointers. Volkert was third on the team at 12.7 points per game and also led with 139 assists.

The tour will begin on July 31. The team will play four games during a span of six days in Brazil, with two games being played in Jundiai and two in Rio de Janeiro. The team will return to the U.S. on Aug. 9.
