Chris Cook and another big day from senior
Emily Waletzko led the Minnesota State University track and field teams at the University of North Dakota Indoor Open on Saturday in Grand Forks, N.D. Three Dragons added runner-up finished n the day.
Waletzko was second in the weight throw at 60-2 1/2, which is a personal-best and 11th best throw in Division II this season. It is the second-best throw in the NSIC this season. She also had an NCAA provisional throw in the shot put, placing third at 44-9, which is the fourth-best throw in the NSIC this season.
Cook won the men's high jump in a jump off at 6-8, which is a personal-best and the second-best jump in the NSIC this season.
Yusuf won the 5,000 in 15:10.07, which is the fifth-best time in the NSIC.
Junior
Kathryn Sistrunk was second in the women's 5,000 at 18:16.92 which is the best run in the NSIC this season.. Freshman
Sophia Sowada finished in a tie for second in the high jump at 5-3, which was a personal-best and tied for fourth best in the NSIC.
Nicole Kurtti tied for fourth at 5-1.
Freshman
Shaquiel Higgs was third in the 200 in 22.50, finishing only behind two Division I athletes. Junior
Tyler Berby was second in the triple jump at 43-5 1/2. Junior
Zach Sweep was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.43 while freshman
Ty Dawkins was fourth in the 400-meter run in 50.29. Senior
Evan Carlson was fifth in the 600 in 1:25.77.
Tanner Berby had a personal-best throw of 51-11 in the weight throw.
Senior
Marissa Carlson was fifth in the women's 800-meter run in 2:20.73, which is the fourth-best time in the NSIC this season.
MSUM is back in action on Feb. 1-2 at the North Dakota State Bison Open in Fargo, N.D.
