SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Junior
Laura Tvrdik led the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons with 16 kills on Friday evening as the team took a five-set match from the Augustana Vikings (25-17, 24-26, 23-25, 25-20, 15-12).
The Dragons move to 14-7 overall and even out their record in the NSIC to 4-4. The Vikings suffered their fifth loss in conference play (3-5) and their 12th overall (8-12).
MSUM had 64 kills in the set, 85 digs and 19 block assists to take the nail-biter. Tvrdik led the offensive power as she hit .500 in the match, completing the attack 16 of the 26 attempts she took. She also picked up two block assists and one service ace.
Freshman
Heidi Lensing tallied 14 kills in the match and had seven digs and four block assists. Matching Lensing's blocks total was senior
Mary Sussenguth who also had 11 kills and two service aces.
Leading the Dragons defense was freshman
Katy Ness and junior
Ashley Pyfferoen who had a combined 41 digs in the set (21-20, respectively). Junior
Kristen Kleven led the defense at the net, with five block assists. Senior outside hitter,
Keri Dowzak had three blocks and had seven kills in the match. Kleven also had seven kills on the day.
Junior setter,
Leigh Splittstoesser had her sixth double-double of the season as she had 31 assists and 10 digs. Freshman
Anna Olson also charted 16 assists on the day.
The Dragons continue their NSIC road-trip as they will face Wayne State Saturday at 4 p.m.
