MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Dragons soccer team played in freezing temperatures on Saturday as they suffered a conference loss to the University of Mary Marauders, 0-1.
The temperature at the start of the game was a mere 34 degrees, the coldest temperature a game has been started at MSUM in the past three seasons.
The Dragons record moves to 4-7-1 overall and 1-6 in league play while Mary's record moved ot 6-5-2 with a 4-3-1 conference tally.
Defense was the key for both teams, as the up-and-down action on the field resulted in 15 saves, ten of which were made by Dragons' goalkeeper
Alison Wanner.
The only goal that was posted in the game was eight minutes and 50 seconds after half time, when Michelle Jones broke away from the pack and kicked in an unassisted goal, it was her first of the season.
The Dragons will go head-to-head on Sunday, Oct. 11, with the Northern State Wolves at 1 p.m. The game will be held at Alex Nemzek Soccer Field.
